Prosecutor wants one year for obstetrician<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The prosecution asked the court on Wednesday for a
\none-year jail sentence and two years' probation for an
\nobstetrician at Pondok Indah Hospital in South Jakarta for
\nalleged negligence in the treatment of Debora Lydya L. Tobing.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Suntoro said Azen Salim was negligent in his
\ntreatment of Debora during and after her delivery on Oct. 25,
\n2003.<\/p>\n
Azen left the hospital two hours after the delivery while
\nDebora was suffering from hemorrhaging and cramping, the
\nprosecutor told the South Jakarta District Court.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor said Azen's treatment of the woman only made
\nthe bleeding worse.<\/p>\n
Debora sought treatment at Bintaro International Hospital,
\nwhere doctors found decaying placenta and infected womb tissue
\ninside her. The woman eventually made a full recovery.<\/p>\n
Presiding judge I Wayan Rena adjourned the trial until next
\nweek at which time the court will hear from the defense. -- JP<\/p>",
