Prosecutor probes assistance projects<\/p>\n
JAMBI: The Jambi Prosecutor's Office is currently
\ninvestigating a suspected embezzlement involving projects worth a
\ntotal of Rp 6.7 billion (US$744,444) aimed at assisting poor
\nresidents in the province over the last two years.<\/p>\n
\"All of the projects were related to provisions,\" said
\nassistant of the prosecutor office's detective unit, Nudy D.
\nSiburian on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The projects, the funds for which came from the Jambi
\nprovincial budget and the state budget, were spread in 10
\nmunicipalities and regencies and handled by 16 contractors.<\/p>\n
He said his office had started a preliminary investigation as
\nwell as coordination with the provincial administration and
\nrelated offices in getting data.<\/p>\n
He encouraged heads of the offices to be open in disclosing
\ndistribution channels of the projects as well as its value.<\/p>\n
\"There's always possibility there's been 'cooperation' between
\nofficials and the contractors,\" he said. -- JP<\/p>",
