Prosecutor fails to indict<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A bank forgery trial at the South Jakarta
\nDistrict Court was postponed yesterday after the prosecutor was
\nunable to concentrate enough to read the indictment.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Y.W. Mere asked for the postponement because he was
\nconcerned about his colleagues being detained at the National
\nPolice Headquarters.<\/p>\n
Mere was referring to the Jakarta Provincial Prosecutor
\noffice's senior prosecutor, Jurnalis Kamaru, and the office's
\nadministrative employee, Afrizal, who were recently arrested for
\nfalsifying statements on the April 1994 killing of entertainment
\nbusinessman Nyo Beng Seng.<\/p>\n
Mere was apparently so upset that he was unable to concentrate
\nenough to read a 34-page indictment of Made Oka Masagung, the
\nformer owner of Bank Arta Prima.<\/p>\n
Masagung was scheduled to be indicted yesterday at the court
\nfor his role in forging promissory notes worth Rp 150 billion
\n(US$33.3 million) which were endorsed by the bank.<\/p>\n
The defendant's lawyer Gani Djemat regretted Mere's request
\nfor adjournment saying that the prosecutor's reason was
\nirrelevant.<\/p>\n
\"But we could understand the situation,\" Gani said.<\/p>\n
Presiding Judge Sudadi later postponed the trial until next
\nweek to hear the indictment. (jun)<\/p>",
