Prosecutor delays Robot's trial<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The murder and sodomy trial of alleged pedophile
\nSiswanto, alias Robot Gedek, was postponed until next week to
\ngive the state prosecutor time to prepare his concluding
\nstatement.<\/p>\n
Prosecutor Suriansah told the Central Jakarta District Court
\nyesterday that technical problems had prevented him from
\nfinishing his request for sentence.<\/p>\n
The court agreed to postpone it until May 6.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor has charged Robot, 33, with first sodomizing
\nand then killing six boys aged between 11 and 15 years.<\/p>\n
\"I need more time to prepare my statement because there are 28
\ntestimonies and a lot of material evidence to consider,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Outside the courtroom, Robot's lawyers Febry Irmansyah and
\nNadjab Khan said the court had denied their request to have a
\npsychiatrist examine their client.<\/p>\n
\"The judges told us that Robot was well and sane enough to be
\nresponsible for his crimes,\" Febry said.<\/p>\n
He said the judges had decided that Robot could communicate
\nwell in court and did not sound mentally disturbed.<\/p>\n
But having an expert witness was crucial because it could
\nreduce the defendant's sentence, said Febry.<\/p>\n
\"If he is found to be insane he can be freed from all charges
\nas stipulated in Section 44 of the Criminal Code,\" Febry said.<\/p>\n
None of the witnesses's statements nor the material evidence
\nsupported the charges, said Febry.<\/p>\n
\"The prosecutor's indictment was based only on the defendant's
\nconfession,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The police say Robot confessed to killing 12 boys when they
\narrested him last August. (12)<\/p>",
