        "content": "<p>Deputy Chairman of the DPR\u2019s Commission VIII, Singgih Januratmoko,\nadmitted that he has never heard the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah convey\nplans for a ticket auction or bidding system for Hajj departures.\nPreviously, Minister of Hajj and Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf expressed\nthis proposal as one option to address the Hajj waiting period issue,\nwhich can take decades. \u201cThe government\u2019s plan has not yet been conveyed\nto the DPR,\u201d said Singgih when contacted on Friday, 10 April 2026.\nAccording to Singgih, the ticket auction system could instead lengthen\nthe Hajj queue because each country\u2019s quota remains the same, but the\ncompetition increases. He asked the government to reconsider this plan\nbefore implementing it fully. \u201cWe must be careful in addressing this\nissue. It must be studied thoroughly,\u201d said Singgih. A similar view was\nexpressed by Commission VIII DPR member from the Golkar faction, Atalia\nPraratya. She assessed that the government needs to be careful in\nfloating such ideas because every concept voiced by officials will be\nresponded to by the public as a policy direction. \u201cThe public needs\ncertainty, especially regarding the organisation of the sensitive Hajj\npilgrimage,\u201d she stated. With the already long Hajj queues lasting\nyears, she said, a speed-focused system like ticket auction cannot yet\naddress the main problem. She encouraged the government to formulate\nsolutions that prioritise justice and certainty for prospective pilgrims\nwho have been waiting for more than 20 years first. Historically, the\nHajj waiting system has been in place in Indonesia since 2008. This\nsystem was implemented because public interest in Hajj is very high,\nexceeding the annual quota given by Saudi Arabia. The Hajj queues in\nvarious regions in Indonesia vary, from a dozen to the longest 47 years.\nHowever, starting this year, the government has standardised the Hajj\nwaiting period for all regions to 26 years. The discourse to abolish the\nqueue system and implement ticket auction emerged after President\nPrabowo Subianto ordered the Ministry of Hajj to revolutionise Hajj\norganisation. In a working meeting with the ranks of the Red and White\nCabinet at the State Palace on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, Prabowo\nexpressed his desire to shorten the Hajj waiting period, which has long\nbeen a major issue for Muslims in Indonesia. \u201cWe are now fighting and\nalhamdulillah we have received reports that the Hajj queue is no longer\n48 years. Starting in 2026, the longest Hajj queue will be 26 years, and\nI will fight to make it even shorter,\u201d said Prabowo. Minister of Hajj\nand Umrah Mochamad Irfan Yusuf said one idea that emerged is to abolish\nthe waiting list system and switch to a ticket auction mechanism or\ndirect registration.
