Proper implementation of death penalty<\/p>\n
The Indian Embassy in Jakarta has objected to the impending
\nexecution of Indian drug dealer Ayodhya Prasadh Chaubey (65), who
\nhas been sentenced to death for possession of 12.9 kg of heroin.<\/p>\n
The foreign mission said Chaubey was too old to be executed,
\nciting Indian law.<\/p>\n
Capital punishment is a heavy sentence and generates
\ncontroversy. A number of European countries have even put an end
\nto the death penalty.<\/p>\n
From a different point of view, however, the death penalty
\nshould be maintained, especially against criminals whose deeds
\nhave endangered other people's lives.<\/p>\n
The number of drug users in both rural and urban areas in the
\ncountry has continued to increase annually. Young and old, rich
\nand poor, have become drug addicts.<\/p>\n
We should thus retain strict measures against drug traffickers
\nand users in Indonesia. Hopefully, a heavy punishment such as
\ndeath would be an effective deterrent against dealers and users.<\/p>\n
This daily suggests that all procedures for executing drug
\ntraffickers be carried out properly in anticipation of unexpected
