Promotion-hungry officials duped<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Three high-ranking officials transferred millions of
\nrupiah to an unidentified person who promised them promotions
\nonly to realize that they had been conned.<\/p>\n
The President's secretary for military affairs, Maj. Gen. T.B.
\nHassanudin, confirmed on Thursday that three officials, including
\nan air marshal, had fallen for the scam.<\/p>\n
\"An unidentified person claiming to be from the presidential
\noffice called government officials on their cell phones and asked
\nthem to transfer a certain amount of money to a bank account if
\nthey wanted to be promoted,\" Hassanudin said.<\/p>\n
One of the victims transferred Rp 100 million (US$11,360) to
\nthe bank account.<\/p>\n
When asked whether the swindle had succeeded because it was
\ncommon practice at the presidential palace to pay for a
\npromotion, Hassanudin said: \"No, this is because some people are
\ntoo ambitious to get promoted.\" -- JP<\/p>",
