Bank Indonesia State Liquidity Loan (BLBI) case<br>\nBank Indonesia Governor Sjachriel Sabirin was convicted of<br>\nviolating prudential banking principles by the Central Jakarta<br>\nDistrict Court that sentenced him to two years in jail. The<br>\nJakarta Provincial Court granted his appeal and cleared him of<br>\nall charges, but the state prosecutors appealed the verdict.<\/p>\n<p>2. Pertamina Case<\/p>\n<p>Deputy People&apos;s Consultative Assembly (MPR) Speaker Ginandjar<br>\nKartasasmita is charged with causing losses to state amounting<br>\nUS$23.4 million in a technical contract assistance when he was<br>\nthe minister of mines and energy between 1987 and 1992. Fellow<br>\nsuspects were Ginandjar&apos;s successor I.B. Sudjana and former state<br>\noil company Pertamina Faisal Abda&apos;oe, who both have died.<br>\nInvestigation remains underway.<\/p>\n<p>3. Bulog case<\/p>\n<p>a. Akbar Tandjung, the chairman of Golkar Party and House of<br>\nRepresentatives (DPR) speaker, was convicted by the Central<br>\nJakarta District Court of misappropriating Rp 54.6 billion<br>\nbelonging to State Logistics Agency (Bulog) to fund a food-for-<br>\nthe-poor program. The court sentenced him to three years in jail,<br>\nbut his appeal has helped him evade the jail term.<\/p>\n<p>b. Rahardi Ramelan, former Bulog chief, was also convicted of<br>\nabusing power in the disbursement of the Bulog fund channeled to<br>\nAkbar. The South Jakarta District Court sentenced Rahardi to two<br>\nyears in jail, but like Akbar, escaped the prison as he appealed<br>\nthe verdict.<\/p>\n<p>c.
