        "content": "<p>Project chiefs to face carrot, stick<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja says managers of city<br>\nowned projects should be rewarded or, if necessary, punished,<br>\naccording to the outcome of the projects for which they are<br>\nresponsible.<\/p>\n<p>\"If they can complete the project right on time and the<br>\nquality of the work is satisfactory, the city administration<br>\nshould reward them. But if they fail to finish the project as<br>\nscheduled the administration should reprimand them and then, if<br>\nnecessary, punish them,\" Surjadi said, while formally appointing<br>\n472 project managers and 466 project treasurers.<\/p>\n<p>Surjadi did not give details of the kind of punishments that<br>\ndeficient managers should receive.<\/p>\n<p>Ery Chajaridipura, chairman of the Jakarta Development<br>\nManagement Board, concurred with the governor, adding that a<br>\nspecial team had already been formed to asses the work of project<br>\nmanagers.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the city budget for 525 projects scheduled for<br>\nthe 1995\/1996 fiscal year was Rp 2.2 trillion.<\/p>\n<p>\"We expect that all the projects will get underway in June<br>\nthis year,\" he said.
