        "content": "<p>Progress in free trade plan<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (DPA): Trade officials from Singapore and Japan<br>\nhailed the \"excellent progress\" made on Wednesday toward a<br>\nbilateral free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The Joint Study Group exploring the initiative held<br>\n\"substantive and broad-ranging discussions on the merits of a FTA<br>\nand the mutual benefits it will bring to both countries,\" said a<br>\nstatement following two days of meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore is also seeking FTAs with Canada, Mexico and New<br>\nZealand.<\/p>\n<p>\"Excellent progress was achieved in the discussions,\" the<br>\ngroup said, with the next session to be held in Japan on August<br>\n28.<\/p>\n<p>Singapore has been leaving no stone unturned in pursuing FTAs,<br>\nassuring its neighbors the proposed endeavors will speed up the<br>\npace of liberalization for the region.<\/p>\n<p>The conclusions of the detailed study into a Singapore-Japan<br>\nFTA are due to be completed by November.<\/p>",
