I've been longing to see good Indonesian films screened in
\npublic theaters beside good western ones. I was glad to watch the
\nfilm Sherina the other day. It was OK. Congratulations!<\/p>\n
But where are the other good Indonesian films like Sherina?
\nI understand how risky it was to make films during the Soeharto
\nregime: film-makers were afraid of being arrested or accused of
\nbeing \"against Pancasila\" (state philosophy) or being terrorized,
\nsniffling creativity.<\/p>\n
Now that film-makers have no more psychological obstructions
\nlike before, why not make more good films, any kind of films
\ncapable of competing with Western ones? We've been longing for
\nthem!<\/p>\n
Why do you not make films to depict the life of our people
\ntoday as well as the past. Our history is rich in epics and
\nstories that are extremely colorful. If you can make good films,
\nyou will definitely profit from them because we will throng all
\ntheaters where good Indonesian films are screened. Sherina has
\nproven that!<\/p>\n
