Problem PDI-P legislators replaced<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The General Elections Commission (KPU) revoked
\non Monday the membership of six Indonesian Democratic Party of
\nStruggle (PDI Perjuangan) legislators and appointed six
\nreplacements from the same party.<\/p>\n
KPU chief spokesman Djoeharmansyah told The Jakarta Post on
\nTuesday that the memberships were revoked because their
\nappointments violated a commission regulation and had sparked
\nprotests from the regencies which the legislators represented.<\/p>\n
\"The election commission has sent to President B.J. Habibie a
\nletter asking the president to review his decision on their
\nappointment and to issue a new presidential decision on the
\nappointment of their successors,\" Djoeharmansyah said, adding
\nthat he hoped a decision would be made before Wednesday's
\npresidential election.<\/p>\n
The six House members whose membership was revoked were:
\nEdrwin Pardede from Simalungun, North Sumatra; Matheos Formes
\nfrom Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara; Jacob Nuwa Wea from Manggarai,
\nEast Nusa Tenggara; Engelina Pattiasina from Minahasa, North
\nSulawesi; Zulkifar Thaib Ali from East Aceh, Aceh and Pataniari
\nSiahaan from Pekanbaru in Riau.<\/p>\n
The six replacements selected by the commission were Kurpan
\nSinaga, Stanislaus Say, Cyprianus Aoer, Dicky Adolf Pua, Zulkifli
\nKidam and Doli Syarief Pulungan.<\/p>\n
Djoeharmansyah said the problem was that the initial six
\nmembers did not win seats in their respective regencies, but were
\nappointed by the party's central board.<\/p>\n
\"The second six have a right to sit in the legislature because
\nthey won in their regencies,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Jacob Nuwa Wea however said that PDI Perjuangan had
\nsatisfactorily explained the matter to the KPU.<\/p>\n
\"The PDI Perjuangan leadership has sent a letter to the
\nelection commission to inform it of its policy concerning the six
\nlegislators. And I think the problem is over,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Jacob said he and his five colleagues were entitled to seats
\nbecause they were appointed from leftover votes won by the party
