Gen. Hamami Nata said, on Thursday,<br>\nthat the police were still hoping to collect more material<br>\nevidence.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Police have so far questioned five witnesses. We plan to<br>\nquestion more witnesses in order to analyze the case more<br>\nthoroughly,&quot; Hamami said.<\/p>\n<p>The witnesses and the alleged shooters were not detained, he<br>\nsaid. Sources said that 2nd Lieutenant Pujo and Chief Sergeant<br>\nAgus, the alleged trigger-happy officers, had been detained at<br>\nCity Police headquarters soon after the shooting.<\/p>\n<p>Second Sergeant Sofjan was shot dead earlier this month in<br>\nEast Jakarta by fellow police officers from the North Jakarta<br>\npolice precinct.<\/p>\n<p>Police reports said that Sofjan, who was in uniform but<br>\nwearing a black jacket, was caught red-handed when he was<br>\nextorting a bus driver.<\/p>\n<p>Reports said that Sofjan tried to resist arrest before the two<br>\nofficers gunned him down.<\/p>\n<p>Brig. Gen. Nurfaizi, National Police spokesman, has defended<br>\nthe shooting, saying that the shooting of criminals, including<br>\nSofjan, is a defensive action by officers. (cst)<\/p>",
