        "content": "<p>Pro and cons on dubbing<\/p>\n<p>From Kompas<\/p>\n<p>The dubbing of foreign television films into Indonesian has<br>\nbecome a hotly debated topic recently. Some people are of the<br>\nopinion that in the absence of dubbing into Indonesian, \"we can<br>\nlearn a foreign language\", (meaning English). However, if the<br>\nfilm is in Spanish, for example, will many of the viewers be able<br>\nto understand the dialog?<\/p>\n<p>Others hold the view that the voices in a dubbed film often do<br>\nnot suit the character of the actor\/actress whose words are<br>\ndubbed. In my opinion, however, in most cases the dubbing fits<br>\nthe character of the actor\/actress.<\/p>\n<p>As a housewife who happens to be in favor of dubbing, I wish<br>\nto take this opportunity to appeal to the authorities to allow<br>\ndubbing to continue. Why? It is undeniable there are many old<br>\nhousewives, domestic helpers and others who are still illiterate.<\/p>\n<p>If dubbing into Indonesian is prohibited, these people will<br>\ngreatly miss their practical and cheap entertainment. (They<br>\nsometimes simply listen to the dialog of a TV film while doing<br>\nother jobs).<\/p>\n<p>If dubbing into Indonesian is scrapped, people with poor sight<br>\nwill also be disadvantaged. These people find the subtitles<br>\ndifficult to read because they are usually printed in small<br>\nletters in a color which is often the same as the background.<\/p>\n<p>Some people say that the stories in foreign films of poor<br>\nquality. To me this is not the right assessment. I usually watch<br>\nLatin American TV films and think that the stories, the scenes<br>\nand the acting are excellent and that the plots always contain<br>\nsurprises.<\/p>\n<p>One thing not to be forgotten is that the prohibition of<br>\ndubbing means thousands of dubbers having to find new jobs, which<br>\nis not easy to do nowadays.<\/p>\n<p>So, please let dubbing continue.<\/p>\n<p>MRS.
