Prize parking system opposed<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City Secretary Harun Al Rasyid said over the
\nweekend that the city administration did not favor the prize
\nparking system proposed by private companies as a means of
\nimproving parking in the city.<\/p>\n
\"The city administration wants to cooperate with the private
\ncompanies in the parking business, but not under the prize
\nsystem,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Introducing the prize system would only lead the public to
\ngamble, as in the case of the recently-banned SDSB (Philanthropic
\ndonation with prizes) system, he said.<\/p>\n
The proposal came from PT Ikabina Karya Sukses and three
\nother companies. The idea behind the proposed prize system is
\nthat of encouraging motorists to insist on getting receipts from
\nparking attendants, thereby making it easier for the authorities
\nto monitor the revenues collected from parking.<\/p>\n
Ikabina reportedly offered to contribute Rp 25.9 billion of
\nthe parking fees it collected each year to the administration.
\nThat amount is greater than the total revenue collected by the
\ncity-owned parking agency, BP Parkir, during the 1994\/1995 fiscal
\nyear, which ended on March 31. BP Parkir collected Rp 14.6
