Privilage for old tourists<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia will allow elderly foreign tourists to
\nstay in the country up to one year, a senior government official
\nhas said.<\/p>\n
Director General of Tourism Andi Mappisameng said Wednesday
\nthe government was finalizing a presidential decree on the plan.<\/p>\n
Among the conditions that potential holidaymakers will have to
\nmeet are adequate bank guarantees and a written statement that if
\nthey die in Indonesia, their body will be flown home.<\/p>\n
\"But Presidential Decree No. 31 will only apply to elderly
\nholidaymakers from certain countries with four seasons,\" Andi
\nsaid as quoted by Antara.<\/p>\n
He did not specify what the definition of elderly was.<\/p>\n
The countries to be listed in the decree are yet to be
\ndetermined. West European countries, the U.S., Canada, Japan,
\nAustralia and New Zealand are among those recommended, he said.<\/p>\n
\"Those countries have a large number of elderly citizens that
\ncan be lured into visiting and spending a lot of money in
\nIndonesia,\" he added.<\/p>\n
Andi did not say why only people from countries with four
\nseasons would get the privilege. He only said the government did
\nnot want to see elderly tourists staying on a long-term basis
\nposing a problem.<\/p>\n
Most elderly people in Europe currently take their holidays in
\nneighboring countries.<\/p>\n
\"The Ministry of Tourism, Post and Telecommunications is
\nidentifying holiday resorts in Java and North Sumatra suitable
