        "content": "<p>Private security forces banned during MPR session<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Unlike past practices, all political parties and<br>\nmass organizations will be prohibited from deploying their<br>\nsecurity forces at the upcoming general session of People's<br>\nConsultative Assembly (MPR) because it is feared their<br>\nparticipation could raise new security problems.<\/p>\n<p>Assembly Speaker Amien Rais said on Wednesday that the<br>\nNational Police, with the backup of the military, would be in<br>\ncharge of law and order during the annual session from Aug. 7<br>\nthrough to Aug. 18.<\/p>\n<p>\"Leaders of all political parties and mass organizations<br>\nshould not be motivated to deploy their security forces. The<br>\nNational Police with the help of Indonesian Military (TNI) will<br>\nbe able to handle security matters during the general session.<br>\nAnd the 10-day session will go smoothly,\" he said, after a<br>\nmeeting with security authorities here on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Also attending the meeting were TNI Commander Adm. Widodo<br>\nA.S., National Police chief Gen. Rusdihardjo, Jakarta Military<br>\nchief Maj. Gen. Ryamizard Ryacudu, City Police chief Maj. Gen.<br>\nNurfaizi and the chairman of the MPR's Special Ad Hoc Committee,<br>\nPostdam Hutasoit.<\/p>\n<p>Rusdihardjo said a total of 68,000 police and military<br>\npersonnel would be deployed nationwide to maintain law and order<br>\nat the general session.<\/p>\n<p>\"In Jakarta, 19,000 police and more than 4,000 military<br>\npersonnel will be mobilized and reinforcements will be readied if<br>\nneeded,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>He conceded several political parties and mass organizations<br>\nhave recently requested, out of good will, to send their security<br>\nforces to help the security authorities \"but we turned them down<br>\nbecause their participation is feared to cause negative impacts<br>\nto the general session.\"<\/p>\n<p>He declined to identify the political party-affiliated<br>\nsecurity forces.<\/p>\n<p>Rusdihardjo said that despite possible waves of<br>\ndemonstrations, security authorities would not impose any<br>\nblockades on the streets around the MPR compound.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about the session's main agenda, Amien reiterated that<br>\nit would listen to the President's progress report without having<br>\nto deliver his accountability speech.<\/p>\n<p>\"There will be no agenda aimed at impeaching the President who<br>\nwas elected democratically last October.
