        "content": "<p>Private schools told to aid poor students<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Secretary-General of the Ministry of Education<br>\nand Culture Hasan Walinono has urged private schools operators to<br>\nsubsidize poor but talented students.<\/p>\n<p>\"I strongly call for the provision of such subsidies to enable<br>\ntalented students from poor families to continue their studies,\"<br>\nHasan said at the launching of the Global Jaya School owned by PT<br>\nPembangunan Jaya on Friday evening.<\/p>\n<p>PT Pembangunan Jaya is a joint venture between the city<br>\nadministration and private businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Hasan said that the growth of private schools in the city<br>\nreflects the attention businessmen give to national education, in<br>\naddition to their goal of improving the quality of human<br>\nresources to face the era of globalization.<\/p>\n<p>Global Jaya, located on Jl. Raya Jombang in the Bintaro Jaya<br>\nSector IX housing complex in Tangerang, will combine national and<br>\ninternational curricula. Besides Indonesian, students will be<br>\ntaught to actively use English.<\/p>\n<p>Responding to Hasan's call, Ciputra, chairman of the school's<br>\nboard of trustees, said that the school will allow students from<br>\nnearby schools to utilize Global Jaya's resources, including<br>\ntheir English speaking teachers.<\/p>\n<p>Global Jaya's kindergarten and elementary schools will open<br>\nnext July. Its junior and senior high schools will open in July<br>\nnext year.<\/p>\n<p>Hasan explained that the government allows schools to employ<br>\nforeign teachers, as long as the teachers have work permits, in<br>\norder to improve the quality of education in Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>\"A number of schools have already done that,\" he said, warning<br>\nthat schools intending to employ foreign teachers must get<br>\npermission from the Ministry of Manpower and the Ministry of<br>\nEducation and Culture.<\/p>\n<p>He said foreign teachers are needed to help teach English. \"We<br>\nneed native speakers to enable us to speak English properly,\" he<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Ciputra added that the Global school was designed to stop rich<br>\nIndonesians from sending their children abroad to study.<\/p>\n<p>Global Jaya, built on seven-hectare of land, has facilities<br>\nranging from a library to sport buildings.
