        "content": "<p>Prisoners never miss elections<\/p>\n<p>JAMBI, Jambi: Criminals can be deprived of their physical<br>\nfreedom, but not their political rights.<\/p>\n<p>A total of 632 prisoners serving sentences in penitentiaries<br>\nacross the province are given chances to watch television<br>\nbroadcasts and learn about political parties they will vote for<br>\nJune 7. A TV set is placed in a room in their respective<br>\npenitentiary complex instead of the cells, for the prisoners to<br>\nwatch special broadcasts on the elections.<\/p>\n<p>Amelia Abidin, an official at the provincial chapter of<br>\nMinistry of Justice, told Antara on Thursday that the inmates<br>\nwere allowed to monitor all developments of the election process<br>\ntaking place outside their bars because they had yet to lose<br>\ntheir right to vote.<\/p>\n<p>There are seven prisons across the province, almost half of<br>\nthem in the provincial capital.<\/p>\n<p>According to law, an inmate loses his or her voting right if<br>\nthey face a maximum sentence of five years.<\/p>\n<p>Amelia said some of the parties contesting the polls had also<br>\nplaced placards and other attributes outside the buildings in the<br>\npenitentiary complexes.<\/p>\n<p>For the sake of votes, even criminals are deemed saints in the<br>\neyes of parties.
