        "content": "<p>Prison escapee faces 20 years' imprisonment<\/p>\n<p>BOGOR (JP): A prosecutor demanded the Bogor District Court<br>\nyesterday to sentence Erling Doli Wijaya alias Mikel, who escaped<br>\nfrom his detention cell almost four weeks ago, to 20 years in<br>\nprison for his involvement in a robbery and murder on the<br>\nJagorawi toll road on Oct. 11 last year.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutor Andi Rachman Asbar told the court that Mikel was<br>\nguilty of violating Chapter 365, Article 4, of the Criminal Code<br>\nconcerning robbery.<\/p>\n<p>\"The defendant should be punished for the crime he committed,\"<br>\nAndi said.<\/p>\n<p>Before the court session began, Mikel's lawyers -- Almuzfar,<br>\nMansjur Abubakar and Castrio Pandji -- protested the court for<br>\nallowing the prosecutor to read the indictment despite the<br>\nabsence of the defendant.<\/p>\n<p>\"The indictment violates Chapter 196, Article 1, of Criminal<br>\nCode Procedures,\" Almuzfar said.<\/p>\n<p>But judge Usman Wahab decided the indictment could be<br>\ncontinued because Mikel previously attended other trial sessions.<\/p>\n<p>\"The Criminal Code does not have regulations that pertain to<br>\nthe defendant, who attended previous sessions but later escaped,\"<br>\nUsman said.<\/p>\n<p>He quoted former Supreme Court chief Oemar Senoadji, who once<br>\nsaid that such a court session could continue.<\/p>\n<p>The lawyers did not agree with the judge's decision, telling<br>\nthe court they resigned as Mikel's lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>On June 27, Mikel escaped from an escort of two officers of<br>\nthe Bogor Prosecutor's Office.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, East Java Police spokesman Lt. Col. Sofwat Hadi<br>\nsaid yesterday that police were still looking for Mikel.<\/p>\n<p>Sofwat said two police officers failed to arrest Mikel on Jl.<br>\nCiliwung, in Surabaya, East Java, on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Two police officers, including a police officer from Bogor,<br>\nTatang Ruswandi, who was assigned to capture Mikel, saw the<br>\nsuspect driving a Suzuki jeep on the street at about 7:30 p.m. on<br>\nFriday, a police source said.<\/p>\n<p>Mikel, his wife Elizabeth and a sister-in-law, Lulu, tried to<br>\nhire a doctor in the area, the officer said.<\/p>\n<p>He said Mikel, who apparently knew he was being watched, tried<br>\nto escape by breaking the right window of his car and threatening<br>\nto shoot Tatang after police officers fired a warning shot.<\/p>\n<p>The suspect speeded up his car and nearly hit Tatang, who<br>\ntried to stop the car, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Tatang managed to jump aside to avoid the car but fired his<br>\npistol accidentally, hitting his own left leg, the police source<br>\nsaid.<\/p>\n<p>Tatang was being treated at RKZ Hospital on Jl.
