        "content": "<p>Prisident Soeharto arrives in Amman<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto arrived in Amman yesterday to<br>\nbegin a four-day state visit aimed at further strengthening the<br>\nstrong ties between Indonesia and Jordan.<\/p>\n<p>After an 11-hour flight Soeharto touched down at Queen Alia<br>\nairport and was met by Jordan&apos;s King Hussein.<\/p>\n<p>The visit to Jordan is the first-leg of an overseas trip which<br>\nwill take him to Rome for the World Food Summit.<\/p>\n<p>The president is accompanied by Minister\/State Secretary<br>\nMoerdiono and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ali Alatas. In his<br>\nentourage were two of his daughters -- Siti Hardiyanti Rukmana<br>\nand Siti Hediati Harijadi Prabowo.<\/p>\n<p>Today, Soeharto and King Hussein will hold discussions<br>\ncovering both bilateral and international issues of mutual<br>\nconcern. The Non-Aligned Movement, in which the two countries are<br>\nactive members, is expected to weigh into the talks.<\/p>\n<p>During the four-day stay, Soeharto and King Hussein are<br>\nexpected to witness the signing by ministers of three agreements<br>\naimed at boosting commercial ties.<\/p>\n<p>The first involves an agreement on enhancing investment, the<br>\nsecond on the avoidance of double taxation and the third on<br>\nmaritime transport between the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>Two-way trade between the two countries stands at over US$65<br>\nmillion. Primary exports from Jordan are phosphates and<br>\nfertilizer, while from Indonesia include timber and textiles.<\/p>\n<p>This is Soeharto&apos;s second visit to Jordan, but the first trip<br>\nwas little more than a brief stopover on a return trip from<br>\nEurope in 1977.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from stately affairs, Soeharto on his current visit is<br>\nscheduled to visit the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea and the<br>\nhistorical remains of in Petra.<\/p>\n<p>The president&apos;s arrival in Amman reciprocates a visit made to<br>\nIndonesia by King Hussein in 1986.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday Soeharto will continue his journey to Rome to<br>\nattend the World Food Summit. There he will be one of the<br>\nspeakers addressing the conference organized by the United<br>\nNation&apos;s Food and Agriculture Organization. (mds)<\/p>",
