Priok port has cargo center<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): State port operator PT Pelabuhan Indonesia II
\n(Pelindo II), which is responsible for the management of
\nJakarta's Tanjung Priok port, has started operating a new cargo
\ndistribution center to facilitate container flow through the
\nport, especially for shipments from Japan.<\/p>\n
The port's spokesman Sudjarwo said yesterday that the new
\ndistribution center had been jointly built by Pelindo and the
\nInternational Post Cargo Distribution of Japan (IPCD), according
\nto Antara.<\/p>\n
\"The project was completed in 17 months. The 11,385 hectare
\ncomplex comprises 9,343 hectares of warehouses, 1,740 hectares of
\noffices, and 311 hectares of other facilities,\" he said.<\/p>\n
He said that 50 percent of the warehousing facilities would be
\nreserved for IPCD members and the remaining 50 percent could be
\nused by other companies.<\/p>\n
To encourage Japanese traders, IPCD members would be offered a
\n30 percent discount on fees for using the new distribution center
\nuntil the year 2007.<\/p>\n
The distribution center has large capacity container cranes,
\nand on-line information facilities, which will link the center
\nwith banks and container terminals, Sudjarwo added. (gis)<\/p>",
