Priok bones back to relatives<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The remains believed to be the victims of the
\n1984 Tanjung Priok incident were handed back to their relatives
\non Sunday during a solemn ceremony at the morgue of Cipto
\nMangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The ceremony was marked by relief and tears on the part of the
\nrelatives when they received the remains of their loved ones from
\nthe joint team of forensic experts and members of the National
\nCommission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM).<\/p>\n
\"It's been 16 years of uncertainty, until the forensic team
\nconfirmed the identity of my husband,\" Siti Khotimah, wife of
\nTukimin, one of the victims, told reporters.<\/p>\n
The decaying bones of the six victims were then brought for
\nprayers and burial to Mengkok cemetery in Semper, North Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The joint team disclosed their preliminary conclusions on
\nFriday which found evidence of violence having been inflicted on
\nthe deceased persons, including a hole matching the size of a
\nbullet found in Romli's skull.<\/p>\n
\"We will continue with the laboratory examination on the
\nsamples from the remains for the autopsy report, which will be
\nused as evidence in court,\" said Djoko Sugianto, chairman of
\nKomnas HAM, on Sunday.<\/p>\n
\"I hope the results will be ready next week,\" Budi Sampurna, a
\nsenior forensic expert from the hospital said.<\/p>\n
He added that the team would start another exhumation of
\nremains in Pondok Rangon cemetery in East Jakarta on Monday,
\nwhere seven other victims are believed to have been buried.<\/p>\n
There are a total of 23 victims of the Sept. 12, 1984
\nincident, which involved clashes between civilians and military
\npersonnel which allegedly erupted following emotionally-charged
\nsermons by local preachers, who were reportedly criticizing the
