Printing machines confiscated<\/p>\n
BOGOR, West Java: Local authorities have confiscated several
\nmachines used to print leaflets calling on the public to boycott
\nthe May 29 general election.<\/p>\n
Bogor Surya Kencana military district commander Col. Eddi
\nBudianto said his troops were hunting the people suspected of
\nprinting and distributing the leaflets.<\/p>\n
\"We are calling on the public to beware of the situation. If
\nyou ever learn of individuals or groups seeking to disturb peace
\nand stability, please report immediately to the local Alert
\nCommand Center, or call 122,\" Eddi said.<\/p>\n
Didi Wiardi, the head of the local sociopolitical affairs
\noffice, confirmed that his office had confiscated 17 leaflets
\nposted at various intersections in Bogor.<\/p>\n
\"They were posted at night, and so nobody could have read them
\nbecause officials took them down immediately,\" Didi said.<\/p>\n
The pamphlets were photocopies of a picture of the chairmen of
\nthe three political groupings contesting the general election.
\nThe picture was crossed out with a big X.<\/p>\n
Underneath the picture was a call to boycott the election
\nissued by the Independent Election Monitoring Committee, and the
\nDemocratic People's Party, an unrecognized student group recently
\naccused of masterminding the July 27 riot in Jakarta.<\/p>\n
Didi's office plans to question Harry Soba, the committee's
