Printer's trial adjourned<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The trial of a man who allegedly printed the
\nunlicensed Suara Independen magazine was adjourned yesterday
\nbecause his lawyers failed to turn up.<\/p>\n
Andi Syahputra, 32, is being accused by the government of
\ndefaming the President by helping to print the magazines which
\nran the offending articles.<\/p>\n
Yanrino, one of Andi's lawyers said they were given only one
\nday's notice of the trial date. The court should have given them
\nat least three days, Yanrino said.<\/p>\n
Suara Independen, a magazine critical of the government, was
\npublished by the Indonesia Society of Alternative Media, which is
\nbased in Melbourne, Australia.<\/p>\n
The magazine does not have a publishing license in Indonesia
\nand is therefore considered illegal.<\/p>\n
Andi was arrested Oct. 27 at a printing shop belonging to 60-
\nyear old Jazrul Zen. Copies of the magazine were seized as
\nevidence.<\/p>\n
