Prices for 12-kilogram LPG cylinders in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai,\nEast Nusa Tenggara (NTT) have surged to Rp500,000 per cylinder, due to a\nshortage of non-subsidised gas.<\/p>\n
Hotel and restaurant operators in Labuan Bajo, West Manggarai,\nincluding Matheus Saniang Naga Siagian, say LPG stock there has run dry.\nThey have been forced to buy LPG at Rp500,000 from Reo, Manggarai, since\nlast week, pushing up costs.<\/p>\n
\u201cAdded transport costs to Reo and back,\u201d Matheus said on Thursday, 21\nMay 2026.<\/p>\n
He noted the price jump from before the shortage. Previously, he\nbought 12 kg LPG in Labuan Bajo for Rp185,000.<\/p>\n
He said the severe LPG shortage in Labuan Bajo had been going on for\nabout two weeks. He has had to buy LPG as far as Ende Regency and Bima,\nWest Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Matheus, who runs a pizza business in Labuan\nBajo, uses up to two LPG cylinders a day. At that time, he said, there\nwas no LPG stock in Labuan Bajo.<\/p>\n
\u201cI sell pizzas, so the oven is on constantly. I go through one to two\ngas cylinders per day,\u201d Matheus said.<\/p>\n
He said LPG has begun to be available again in Labuan Bajo. Thousands\nof new cylinders have entered the destination, a super-priority tourist\narea.<\/p>\n
Matheus hopes that in future someone will be tasked with controlling\nLPG distribution, including other needs such as fuel (BBM) and other\nessential commodities, to anticipate shortages.<\/p>\n
\u201cHopefully in the future there will be someone assigned to monitor\nLPG, BBM, rice, and other essential goods so that shortages can be\nanticipated,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>\n
Area Manager Communications, Relations & CSR Pertamina Patra\nNiaga Jatimbalinus Ahad Rahedi said the company had received complaints\nfrom the public about the jump in price of non-subsidised LPG in Labuan\nBajo.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn response to the complaints, Pertamina Patra Niaga is conducting\nsupply checks and field distribution issues, including further\nmitigation,\u201d Ahad said.<\/p>\n
He emphasised Pertamina\u2019s commitment to ensuring LPG supplies and\ndistribution in Labuan Bajo. \u201cLPG supply to Labuan Bajo is currently\nstill supplied from Surabaya City, same as other areas in NTT,\u201d said\nAhad.<\/p>\n
\u201cEarly in May, following a directive from the Police Headquarters,\nenforcement and supervision of potential LPG misuse were carried out,\nincluding checks on expedition transport. This led to container loading\ndifficulties at Surabaya Port for 4-5 days due to enforcement by East\nJava Police (Polda Jatim),\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a further mitigation, Ahad said Pertamina has pushed to speed up\nLPG supply to all NTT regions, including Labuan Bajo. In addition to\naccelerating supply, Pertamina has already scheduled meetings with local\ngovernment and official agents regarding the setting of lower and upper\nprice limits for non-subsidised LPG.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWith these mitigations and precautions, it is hoped to meet the LPG\nneeds of Labuan Bajo residents,\u201d Ahad said.<\/p>\n
He urged the public to purchase from Pertamina-appointed agents or\noutlets as an extension of the agent to obtain prices that are certainly\nmore affordable than buying at retailers.<\/p>\n
\u201cPertamina has coordinated with Agents to serve outlets and the\npublic in accordance with the rules and fair selling prices. Pertamina\ncontinues to strive to maintain LPG stock resilience so that supplies\nare available and to coordinate with relevant parties to ensure timely\ndistribution and constant availability for the public,\u201d Ahad\nconcluded.<\/p>\n
