Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Press Council has stated that the five\njournalists who went missing while covering activities at Mount Anak\nEmak Krakatau are press heroes, noting that the incident serves as a\nvital reminder of the importance of coordinating with the government and\nlocal officials when working in dangerous areas.<\/p>\n
Speaking in Jakarta on Monday, the Chairman of the Press Council,\nKomarudin Hidayat, stated that the five journalists are heroes in the\nworld of journalism because of their efforts to present the best\nphotographs to the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cUsually, we enjoy photographs, but we sometimes forget the struggle\ninvolved in obtaining them. When a tragedy like this occurs, we realise\nhow costly and difficult it is to find and capture the best images,\u201d\nsaid Komarudin following a joint prayer session for the missing\njournalists.<\/p>\n
He noted that this event serves as a reminder for media organisations\nplanning coverage in dangerous regions that they should coordinate with\nlocal authorities.<\/p>\n
On this occasion, he expressed appreciation to all relevant parties\nwho continue to strive to locate the five journalists.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Press Council offers its attention and condolences to the\nfamilies left behind. We are holding a joint prayer, tributes, and\nreflections with colleagues. Our prayers are, of course, that they\nreturn,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurrently, Indonesian photojournalists remain strong and are united\nwith the community in conducting independent searches,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that the dedication of the journalists who went missing\nwhile reporting is a form of struggle for the nation in accordance with\nthe Law.
