President's husband undergoes tests in Perth<\/p>\n

The husband of President Megawati Soekarnoputri was undergoing
\ntests for a heart problem in an Australian hospital on Wednesday,
\na consular official said.<\/p>\n
Taufik Kiemas, a key power broker in Megawati's government,
\narrived in Perth, the capital of Western Australia state, early
\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
He was admitted to Hollywood private hospital and his
\ncondition was not serious, Indonesia's vice consul in Perth,
\nMalik Partawana, said.<\/p>\n
"His Excellency, the husband of the President, is just having,
\nfirst of all, the medical checkup," Malik said.<\/p>\n
Taufik, 58, had been admitted to a Jakarta hospital on Tuesday
\nwith low blood pressure and fatigue. His physician, Ganesha
\nHarimurti, denied initial reports that he had suffered a heart
\nattack.<\/p>\n
Taufik has been treated before by Perth heart specialists
\nseveral times in recent years, including having cardiac bypass
\nsurgery about two years ago.<\/p>\n
Taufik was expected to be released from a Perth hospital late
\nWednesday after a series of checks, Malik said.<\/p>\n
"He is in a good condition, but he is resting just now," Malik
\nsaid. "We expect him to come out of the hospital soon."<\/p>\n
The vice consul said Taufik had traveled to Perth with his
\ndaughter, who was at her father's bedside.<\/p>\n
Asked how long he would be staying in Australia, Malik said:
\n"I don't know -- maybe he wants to go sightseeing or maybe just
\nto rest a while longer."<\/p>\n
Presidential aides have said that Megawati has no plans to
\ncome to Perth to visit her husband.<\/p>",
