Presidential poll in Semarang<\/p>\n
SEMARANG, Central Java: A poll of 625 students at the state
\nDiponegoro University here found that 82.1 percent of respondents
\nbelieve a change in the national leadership should take place
\nduring the plenary session of the People's Consultative Assembly
\nin March.<\/p>\n
The poll, conducted by the student senate, also collected
\nnames of likely candidates to succeed President Soeharto. Among
\nthose put forward were: ousted leader of the Indonesian
\nDemocratic Party Megawati Soekarnoputri, chairman of the
\nNahdlatul Ulema Abdurrahman Wahid, Muhammadiyah chairman Amien
\nRais, Minister of Finance Mar'ie Muhammad, State Minister of
\nNational Development Planning Ginandjar Kartasasmita and Minister
\nof Information R. Hartono.<\/p>\n
The poll follows a recent vote conducted by students at Gadjah
\nMada University in Yogyakarta. They also said that the time for
\nchange had come.<\/p>\n
The chairman of the student senate, Tafrikan Marzuki, admitted
\nthat the results of the poll may not truly represent the voice of
\nDiponegoro University's 15,000 students.<\/p>\n
\"It's alright if someone brushes aside the results of the poll
\nas biased, because we did use a proportional accidental nonrandom
\nsampling technique,\" he said here yesterday.<\/p>\n
The University's rector, Muladi, disregarded the poll as a a
\ncompletely unnecessary stunt given the country's economic
\ndoldrums.<\/p>\n
He added that the methodology used in the poll was also
