        "content": "<p>Presidential candidates do more glad-handing<\/p>\n<p>The Jakarta Post, Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>The two presidential candidates camps intensified their efforts<br>\non Saturday to garner more support nationwide as the Sept. 20<br>\npresidential election runoff draws near.<\/p>\n<p>In Jakarta, vice presidential hopeful Hasyim Muzadi visited on<br>\nSaturday, Abdurrahman \"Gus Dur\" Wahid, chief patron of the<br>\nNational Awakening Party (PKB), at Cipto Mangunkusumo General<br>\nHospital (RSCM) in Central Jakarta. Gus Dur was hospitalized a few<br>\ndays ago after his insulin level surged above normal.<\/p>\n<p>The visit was apparently aimed at mending Hasyim's strained<br>\nrelationship with Gus Dur, as well as garnering support from him<br>\nand his partner in the election.<\/p>\n<p>Gus Dur managed to \"joke a lot,\" Hasyim said, Antara reported<br>\non Saturday. \"The only thing we talked seriously about was the<br>\nrecent release of Malaysian former deputy prime minister Anwar<br>\nIbrahim,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Gus Dur previously led the Nadhlatul Ulama (NU), the country's<br>\nlargest Muslim organization now chaired by Hasyim.<\/p>\n<p>On the same day presidential candidate Susilo Bambang<br>\nYudhoyono, from Hasyim's rival camp, visited Nanggroe Aceh<br>\nDarussalam province, where he met Muslim clerics. He reiterated<br>\nhis promise that he would return peace to the strife-torn<br>\nprovince should he be elected.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier in the day, Susilo met with the Christian community in<br>\nMedan, North Sumatra province, where he vowed to eradicate<br>\nchronic corruption in the country. The same promise was made by<br>\nhis running mate Jusuf Kalla in Padang, West Sumatra province.<\/p>\n<p>In Banjarmasin, Central Kalimantan province, Golkar Party<br>\nleader Akbar Tandjung again drummed up support for Megawati.<br>\nSpeaking during the declaration of the province's Nationhood<br>\nCoalition that supports Megawati's bid for the presidency, Akbar<br>\nsaid that supporting Megawati had been a party decision, so that<br>\nall members had to support it or be punished.<\/p>\n<p>Later in Jakarta Akbar attended a youth gathering that<br>\ndeclared support for Megawati's bid for the presidency. The<br>\ngathering was attended by some 2,000 youths, claiming that they<br>\nrepresented 25 youth organizations nationwide.<\/p>",
