Presidential candidate criteria<\/p>\n

I would like to discuss the criteria for a presidential
\ncandidate. According to the media there are nine requirements:<\/p>\n
1. Must be a patriot who is faithful and devoted to God;<\/p>\n
2. Must have insight into nationhood and the ability to unite the
\nnation;<\/p>\n
3. Must be a wise statesman;<\/p>\n
4. Must be able to make a decision in a difficult situation;<\/p>\n
5. Must have proven integrity and dedication to the nation;<\/p>\n
6. Must be acceptable to the people;<\/p>\n
7. Must be a New Order proponent with a proven record of ability
\nto implement the New Order ideals;<\/p>\n
8. Must be a champion of sustainable national development;<\/p>\n
9. Must be recognized by the Indonesian society and the
\ninternational world.<\/p>\n
I am strongly convinced that if the future president meets
\nthese requirements, the ideal of a just and prosperous society
\nwill become reality, not merely a slogan or a dream. May the
\npeople's representatives, especially from the functional group
\nGolkar, which constitutes the single majority in the election of
\nthe national leader, not be obsequious in their choice because
\nthe people's fate hangs in the balance.<\/p>\n
The country's development is indeed a \"success.\" However,
\nnational development is not only about material aspects, but
\nabout spiritual factors as well. Spiritual factors like character
\nbuilding are well below the public's expectations, and continue
\nto drop, getting even farther away from the noble values of our
\nancestors. Collusion, corruption, illegal levies and manipulation
\nare on the rise.<\/p>\n
