President told to reform BIN<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The President must take the necessary measures to
\nforce the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) to cooperate with
\npolice investigating the murder of human rights campaigner Munir,
\nhuman rights watchdog Imparsial says.<\/p>\n
"I doubt that BIN officers will provide proper data or access
\nto the police in the investigation into Munir's death, and I
\nbelieve the police will only crash into a wall if the President
\nfails to reform the agency or does not force it to become more
\ncooperative," Imparsial executive director Rachland Nashiddik
\nsaid on Friday.<\/p>\n
His remark came after a recent Cabinet meeting decided to drop
\na plan to form a presidential commission tasked with monitoring
\nthe police's work and making sure that all those implicated in
\nthe murder case be sent to trial.<\/p>\n
Munir died in September last year on board a Garuda aircraft
\nflying from Jakarta to Amsterdam. According to an autopsy carried
\nout by Dutch authorities, the staunch human rights activist died
\nfrom arsenic poisoning.<\/p>\n
The government's fact-finding team has linked several BIN
\nofficials to the murder. --JP<\/p>",
