President to open bazaar<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja said President
\nSoeharto is scheduled to open a bazaar at the National Monument
\non Jl. Medan Merdeka Selatan, Central Jakarta, Wednesday.<\/p>\n
At the opening ceremony, the President will also inaugurate
\nthe national cooperative movement called Gerakan Sejuta Anggota
\nKoperasi (the Movement of One Million Cooperative Members).<\/p>\n
Soeharto will also officiate a display of city-sponsored small
\nstores called Gelar Logo Waserda.<\/p>\n
The small stores, managed by cooperatives, are part of the
\nadministration's program to improve the economy of Jakarta's
\npoor.<\/p>\n
As the stores are in neighborhoods they are expected to reduce
\ntraffic.<\/p>\n
The program, launched by the governor last year, is not very
\nsuccessful, Surjadi said.<\/p>\n
Even though the city now had 269 small stores in 265
\nsubdistricts, the members are less than 1 percent of the city's
