        "content": "<p>President presents awards<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): President Soeharto will give 67 Upakarti awards<br>\nto executives, companies and local administrations for their<br>\ncontribution to small business, Minister of Industry and Trade<br>\nTunky Ariwibowo said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Tunky said the President would present the awards on Dec. 16<br>\nat the State Palace to 21 regents and mayors, 18 companies and 20<br>\nindividuals to recognize their efforts to promote small business.<\/p>\n<p>The winners would come from all provinces, except East Timor<br>\nand Central Sulawesi, he said.<\/p>\n<p>None of the nominees from the two provinces deserved the<br>\nawards, according to the panel of judges, which comprises<br>\nofficials, academics and businessmen.<\/p>\n<p>Atih Suryati Herman, the head of the Small Business<br>\nDevelopment Agency at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said<br>\nthe government had given 863 Upakarti awards since the annual<br>\naward was launched 12 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>She said the number of winners grew yearly, which indicated<br>\nthe public&apos;s growing awareness of the need to help small<br>\nbusiness.(jsk)<\/p>",
