        "content": "<p>President Prabowo Subianto has urged PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) to\nprioritise its public service function over the pursuit of profit.\nSpeaking at the inauguration of the revitalised Semarang Tawang Station\nin Central Java, the President stressed that railways should be viewed\nas a public service rather than a purely commercial enterprise.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKereta api must serve the people, which is why in many countries\nrailways are considered a public service, not solely a profit-making\nventure,\u201d the President said, as quoted from an official press release\nby the Presidential Secretariat in Jakarta on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>The President asserted that rail transport is an instrument of\nnational economic democracy. \u201cThe railway is an economical logistics\ninstrument. It benefits the wider public, especially low-income\ncitizens,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Prabowo added that operational efficiency must be maintained so that\naffordable mass transit services can reach all regions comprehensively.\n\u201cThere is sometimes a dilemma: we want fast trains, but then small towns\nend up unserved. Indonesia\u2019s railways must think holistically and\ncomprehensively,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>According to the President, all modern facilities and advanced\ntechnology adopted by the government should ultimately aim to improve\nthe quality of public service. He also advised that investment in the\npublic transport sector should continue to be expanded to sustainably\nstrengthen the economic foundations of lower-income communities.<\/p>\n<p>Semarang Tawang Station is a major type-A station serving nearly all\npassenger train services passing through the city of Semarang. In the\nfirst half of 2026, the station recorded excellent passenger service\nperformance, ranking as the fourth busiest station in Indonesia with\nover 2.15 million boarding and alighting activities and an on-time\ndeparture performance rate of 99.45 percent.<\/p>",
