Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of State Secretariat (Mensesneg) Prasetyo\nHadi, who also serves as spokesperson for the President of the Republic\nof Indonesia, said President Prabowo Subianto is scheduled to\nsimultaneously inaugurate five dams across five Indonesian regions from\nthe ceremony venue at Meninting Dam in West Nusa Tenggara on Friday.<\/p>\n
The five dams, all national strategic projects (PSN), are Meninting\nDam as the ceremony venue, Keureuto Dam and Rukoh Dam in Aceh, Jlantah\nDam in Central Java, and Sidan Dam in Bali.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeninting Dam was built to address water inequality in Lombok,\nstrengthen water and food security, and anticipate the impacts of\nclimate change such as El Ni\u00f1o and the IOD (Indian Ocean Dipole), which\nhave the potential to trigger prolonged droughts,\u201d Mensesneg Prasetyo\nHadi told journalists in Jakarta on Friday.<\/p>\n
Prasetyo continued that Meninting Dam, with an inundation area of\napproximately 46 hectares, is intended to raise the cropping index in\nthe NTB region from 280 per cent to 300 per cent, including additional\nproduction of up to 420,000 tonnes of unhusked rice per planting\nseason.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe economic value is projected to reach around Rp4.6 trillion,\u201d\nsaid Prasetyo Hadi.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, Pras \u2014 as Prasetyo is familiarly known \u2014\nemphasised that water resource infrastructure development will continue\nin a measured and integrated manner to strengthen food, energy, and\nenvironmental security, as well as hydrometeorological disaster\nmitigation.<\/p>\n
