President Prabowo Subianto has emphasised a ban on anyone clearing\nland by burning and has asked authorities to strengthen education and\nlaw enforcement to prevent forest and land fires (karhutla).<\/p>\n
\u201cExplain that burning land is strictly prohibited,\u201d the President\nsaid while chairing a limited meeting on forest and land fire management\nat the Riau Province Forward Post in Pekanbaru on Monday.<\/p>\n
In an official broadcast from the Presidential Secretariat monitored\nin Jakarta, Prabowo asked all officials to provide education to\ncommunities at the village level regarding the ban on land burning and\nthe impacts it can cause. He said these efforts need to be carried out\nto prevent people from deliberately burning land for any reason.<\/p>\n
The President said communities that need to clear land can report\ntheir needs to the village head, sub-district head or regent. The\ngovernment will then assist with the land clearing process through an\norganised mechanism.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf they need to clear land, they report to the village head,\nsub-district head, regent, and later the government will help them,\u201d the\nPresident said.<\/p>\n
According to the President, the TNI and Polri need to assist regional\ngovernments in providing support to communities. Land clearing can be\norganised through farmer groups, while financing can use the cooperative\npeople\u2019s business credit (KUR) mechanism.<\/p>\n

\u201cMoreover, if there is a corporation that orders it, I ask the police\nand the Attorney General\u2019s Office to investigate. Intelligence should\ninvestigate. If there is any indication, report immediately, and we will\nrevoke it immediately,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n
The President even stressed that the government will revoke all\ncorporate permits if any indication of involvement in land burning is\nfound. He asked the police to play an important role in law enforcement\nagainst perpetrators of burning.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhoever, whatever corporation, if there is even a slight indication\nthat they are involved in ordering burning, we will revoke their\npermits. All of the corporation\u2019s permits will be revoked. I am not\nplaying around, please,\u201d Prabowo said.<\/p>\n
In addition to strengthening education and law enforcement, the\nPresident instructed officials to take early action against every\nhotspot so that it does not develop into a fire point. He asked\nauthorities to immediately visit hotspot locations and prepare water\nsources, including through the construction of bore wells.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t wait until it becomes a fire point. Please enter the hotspot\nlocation. Immediately go in and take early action. In those places,\nwater boreholes can be made,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n
