Jakarta (ANTARA) - President Prabowo Subianto has directly ordered\nthe National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and related institutions\nto immediately head to the locations affected by the magnitude 7.6\nearthquake in North Maluku and North Sulawesi on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n
In a statement from the Indonesian Government Communication Agency\n(Bakom) received in Jakarta on Thursday, BNPB Head Suharyanto said\nPresident Prabowo had received reports on the earthquake and immediately\nissued instructions for emergency handling to be carried out as quickly\nas possible.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe President has received reports since this morning and has\nordered us at BNPB, BMKG (Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics\nAgency), and Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency) under the\ncoordination of the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and\nCulture, Pratikno, to directly assist the affected communities,\u201d said\nBNPB Head Suharyanto.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd we have been instructed to depart for the disaster areas early\nthis morning as well,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
He stated that this swift action demonstrates the government\u2019s\nseriousness in prioritising public safety, especially for disaster\nvictims.<\/p>\n
BNPB has requested all elements in the regions, from regional\ndisaster management agencies (BPBD), TNI, Police, to ministries and\ninstitutions, to collaborate in activating emergency response posts in\neach regency\/city. These posts are expected to ensure that the basic\nneeds of affected communities are met.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom these posts, ensure that the basic needs of affected\ncommunities, such as food logistics, clothing, clean water, and so on,\nare properly fulfilled,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
BNPB has also asked local governments to immediately collect and\nverify the damages caused by the disaster, including residents\u2019 homes,\nhospitals, and other public facilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease form teams immediately to conduct assessments and\nverifications so that the data collected today, which is partial,\nbecomes more complete and accurate over time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
BNPB has also emphasised the importance of the presence of BPBD\nExecutive Heads directly among the affected communities to provide\naccurate information and ensure that victims who have suffered losses\nare handled promptly.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn one hand, providing correct information, and on the other, if\nthere are affected communities facing difficulties or whose assets or\nhomes are damaged, they can be reported immediately and compensated at\nthe earliest opportunity,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, BNPB has requested Basarnas to immediately form special\nteams to go to the field. The aim is to ensure that the number of\nsurvivors and fatalities is accurately recorded.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere may still be other victims who need to be searched for, found,\nand helped; search and rescue teams will be formed immediately,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n
Suharyanto assured that a joint team from the central government\nunder BNPB coordination will be promptly dispatched to the affected\nareas in North Maluku and North Sulawesi to strengthen on-site\nhandling.<\/p>\n
\u201cUpon arrival there, we will hold more detailed meetings to discuss,\nidentify, and resolve all disaster management issues in the region,\u201d\nexplained Suharyanto.<\/p>\n
