President Megawati to meet Gus Dur at NU conference<\/p>\n

President Megawati Soekarnoputri is set to end her standoff with
\nformer president Abdurrahman \"Gus Dur\" Wahid when the two meet
\neach other at the upcoming Nahdlatul Ulama national conference in
\nMalang, East Java, next month.<\/p>\n
Megawati's husband Taufik Kiemas, who maintains a good
\nrelationship with Abdurrahman, said on Wednesday the two were
\nexpected to talk to each other at the venue.<\/p>\n
\"We hope they will talk to each other, especially because
\nthere are no more problems between the two,\" Taufik said after
\nattending International Anti-Drugs Day celebrations at the State
\nPalace.<\/p>\n
Taufik underlined that he had met Abdurrahman, also former NU
\nchairman, and secured his agreement for the planned meeting.<\/p>\n
\"Let see what will be discussed between the two leaders,\"
\nTaufik said.<\/p>\n
The planned meeting will be the first since Megawati ascended
\nto the presidency, replacing Abdurrahman whom she -- together
\nwith the military, the police and other politicians -- ousted
\nfrom power last July.<\/p>\n
Since then the two -- who used to claim to be like brother and
\nsister -- have never met or talked to each other.<\/p>\n
Megawati was seen in the same room with Abdurrahman at an
\nevent to celebrate the Chinese New Year in Jakarta last January,
\nbut the two did not even exchange glances.<\/p>\n
Many speculate that Megawati will eventually look to
\nAbdurrahman, following recent meetings by several Muslim groups,
\nwhich is believed could be a serious challenge to Megawati's
\npower in the future.<\/p>",
