President inaugurates three new envoys<\/p>\n

President Megawati Soekarnoputri swore in on Wednesday three new
\nenvoys for overseas Indonesian missions, including a
\nrepresentative to the United Nations in New York.<\/p>\n
Rezlan Izhar Jenie was sworn in as Indonesia's permanent
\nrepresentative to UN Headquarters, Iris Indira Murti as the
\nambassador to Finland and Kemas Fachruddin as the ambassador to
\nYemen.<\/p>\n
At Wednesday's inauguration ceremony, Deputy Cabinet Secretary
\nErman Radjagukguk read out a presidential decree on the
\nappointment of the three new envoys, while the President provided
\nthe new envoys with letters of credential to be presented to
\ntheir respective host countries.<\/p>\n
"This to simplify the bureaucracy, so that the new ambassadors
\ncan present their credentials immediately to the designated
\ncountries," a high-ranking palace official told The Jakarta Post.<\/p>\n
Letters of credential are usually given to ambassadors a few
\nweeks after they are sworn in.<\/p>\n
The three envoys had passed screening tests by the House of
\nRepresentative (DPR) last year, but were not immediately sworn
\nin. No official explanation was given on the delayed
\ninauguration.<\/p>\n
Of the three envoys, Iris, a former House member and deputy
\ntreasurer of Golkar, is the only non-career diplomat. Golkar is
\nthe largest faction in the House.<\/p>\n
Rezlan is a younger generation diplomat from the Ministry of
\nForeign Affairs, while Kemas is a senior diplomat from the
\nministry.<\/p>\n
At the ceremony, Megawati was accompanied by Minister of
\nForeign Affairs Hassan Wirayuda and several other ministers,
\nincluding ad interim coordinating minister for political and
\nsecurity affairs Hari Sabarno and National Police chief Gen. Da'i
\nBachtiar.<\/p>\n
Also on Wednesday, three new foreign ambassadors to Indonesia,
\nincluding British Ambassador Charles Thomas William Humfrey CMG,
\npresented their credentials to Megawati.<\/p>\n
Ambassador Humfrey is to replace Ambassador Richard Gozney,
\nand is a senior diplomat who has served at the United Kingdom
\nMission to the UN and British Ambassador to Seoul.<\/p>\n
Megawati also received the credentials of new Sri Lankan
\nAmbassador Grace Nesamalar Niliah and United Arab Emirates
\nAmbassador Yousif Rashid Yousif Rashid Alshram.<\/p>\n
