JAKARTA \u2014 The use of battery-powered electric vehicles is increasing,\nincluding for long-distance travel during the Lebaran mudik period.<\/p>\n
Although different from petrol-engine vehicles, electric vehicles\nstill require several preparations to ensure journeys are safe and\nsmooth.<\/p>\n
Bayu Agus Mustofa, Head of Aftersales at Jaecoo Indonesia, stated\nthat there are several matters requiring attention before embarking on\nlong journeys, encompassing vehicle condition and ensuring charging\ndevices are safe to use.<\/p>\n
Additionally, electric vehicle owners must also be cautious when\nreplacing window tinting. Improper installation can allow water to enter\nelectrical areas and trigger system malfunctions.<\/p>\n
Consequently, Bayu recommends that vehicle owners select vendors\nexperienced in handling electric vehicles.<\/p>\n
\u201cEnsure the vendor is accustomed to working on electric vehicles, as\nwe have encountered cases where vehicle electrical systems became wet\nand developed mould,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Vehicle owners are also advised to ensure the condition of components\nincluded in regular maintenance.<\/p>\n
On electric vehicles, several components requiring attention include\nAC filters, brake fluid, coolant, and gear oil.<\/p>\n
AC filters are typically replaced annually. Meanwhile, brake fluid\nand coolant have replacement intervals of approximately two years,\nwhilst gear oil is usually replaced every four years.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe charging installation is important, particularly the grounding,\nto direct stray current to earth. Without proper grounding, electrical\nsparks could occur during the charging process. Therefore, charge at a\nlocation that is properly certified,\u201d said Bayu.<\/p>\n
Before embarking on long journeys, electric vehicle owners are also\nadvised to conduct self-checks on their vehicles.<\/p>\n
Inspections can include the condition of essential fluids such as\ncoolant and windscreen washer fluid, tyre pressure and physical\ncondition, and ensuring electrical systems such as lights and indicators\nfunction properly.<\/p>\n
\u201cSimilar to engine oil, coolant, washer fluid, and windscreen\ncleaning fluid, ensure everything is in safe condition. Also check the\ntyre and wheel area, ensure the air pressure is correct, the tyres are\nin good condition with no bulges and so forth. Test electrical systems\nincluding lights, indicators and other components, as well as the\ncooling or air conditioning system,\u201d said Bayu.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, electric vehicle users are advised to plan their journey\nbeforehand, including identifying charging points along the mudik\nroute.<\/p>\n
