Global chip manufacturer Qualcomm is reportedly planning double-digit price increases for its products, which could significantly impact the cost of flagship Android smartphones and AI-powered PCs. The price hike is driven by rising component costs and supply chain constraints, particularly involving TSMC and the high demand for AI data centre components.

A significant increase in smartphone prices may be imminent. This
follows reports that Qualcomm, one of the world’s largest chip
manufacturers, intends to raise its product prices by up to two digits.
This policy is expected to have a widespread impact on various devices,
ranging from flagship Android phones and AI-based PCs to wearable
technology.

umerous devices utilising Qualcomm processors include the Samsung
Galaxy series, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and
Galaxy Z Flip 8. Additionally, Qualcomm chips are used in Microsoft
Copilot+ PCs and wearable devices like Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.
Consequently, the increase in Qualcomm chip prices could trigger price
hikes across various brands and device categories.

Bloomberg reports that Qualcomm has sent circulars to its customers
to notify them of these price changes. The company is said to begin
implementing the new pricing for products shipped after 1 September.
Qualcomm has reportedly informed its customers that it can no longer
absorb the rising costs of components from its suppliers. The company
has also stated that it has attempted to source alternative components
from new suppliers, according to Engadget.

Most Qualcomm chips are produced by TSMC, which is currently facing
supply chain constraints. Like many other technology firms, Qualcomm is
also affected by the scarcity of memory and components due to the
surging demand for the construction of Artificial Intelligence (AI) data
centres.

In addition to bearing increasingly expensive component costs,
Qualcomm’s sales have reportedly faced pressure throughout this year.
Bloomberg explained that the company’s sales have declined because its
customers have been unable to produce as many devices as usual due to
component supply limitations. Nevertheless, Qualcomm still recorded
second-quarter 2026 revenue that exceeded analyst expectations,
indicating that demand for the company’s products remains strong despite
increasing pressure on supply and production costs.
",
