Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK)\nPratikno remembered the late Rachmat Gobel at a memorial marking seven\ndays since his passing.<\/p>\n
The ceremony was held at the late minister\u2019s residence on Jalan\nProf.\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Soepomo, South Jakarta, on Thursday (16 July).<\/p>\n
Pratikno said he knew Rachmat Gobel well, adding that not only were\nthe two of them close friends, but their children and grandchildren were\nfriends as well.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe met the late Rachmat Gobel on 20 May at the DPR building. We took\nphotos together and talked about our grandchildren, who are friends,\u201d\nPratikno said.<\/p>\n
Pratikno also recalled working alongside the late Rachmat Gobel in\nthe cabinet during the first term of Indonesia\u2019s seventh President,\nJokowi.<\/p>\n
He said Rachmat Gobel\u2019s duties as Trade Minister at the time were far\nfrom easy.<\/p>\n
Pratikno noted that the Trade Minister carried many responsibilities\nand duties that directly affected the wider public.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was by no means easy being Trade Minister. Rising oil prices,\nrising rice prices, rising chilli prices \u2014 all became problems for the\nTrade Minister. Falling exports became a problem for the Trade\nMinister,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Pratikno described the late Rachmat Gobel as someone who worked with\ngreat professionalism.<\/p>\n
He said that throughout his life, the late minister held firmly to\nethical integrity and to religious values.<\/p>\n
Rachmat Gobel passed away in the early hours of Friday (10 July) at\n03.20 WIB at Brawijaya Hospital, South Jakarta. He was 63 years old.<\/p>\n
The NasDem politician had a background as both a businessman and a\npolitician. In addition to holding key positions in parliament, Gobel\nwas also Chief Commissioner at various PT Panasonic companies.<\/p>\n
He also served as Trade Minister under President Joko Widodo from\n2014 to 2015, before Thomas Trikasih Lembong, better known as Tom\nLembong.<\/p>\n
He was buried at the Kalibata National Heroes\u2019 Cemetery (TMP) in\nSouth Jakarta on Friday (10 July) at around 14.30 WIB.<\/p>\n
The funeral procession was conducted with military honours as a mark\nof the state\u2019s respect for the late minister\u2019s services to the\nnation.<\/p>\n
The funeral ceremony proceeded solemnly and was led by Deputy Speaker\nof the DPR RI Saan Mustopa.
