Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has expressed confidence that implementing work-from-home (WFH) policies every Friday will significantly reduce fuel costs for private vehicles among civil servants. He emphasised that ASN must use free public transport for any necessary work travel, promoting efficiency and fairness. Coordinating Minister Airlangga Hartarto explained the choice of Friday due to lighter workloads and alignment with post-pandemic digital work practices in various ministries, while ensuring public services remain uninterrupted.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo is convinced
that the work-from-home (WFH) policy every Friday can reduce fuel costs
for private vehicles. “With the approval of work from home, I am certain
this will definitely reduce petrol costs for cars and so on,” Pramono
explained at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday. This is because civil
servants (ASN) are not permitted to travel using private vehicles during
WFH, which will impact savings on fuel for private vehicles. If ASN need
to travel for work purposes, he said, they must use public transport.
Moreover, ASN are now part of the 15 groups eligible for free public
transport. “So once again, to the ASN in Jakarta, apologies, but they
are relatively privileged compared to others; it’s actually quite good.
But if they are too spoiled, strict action will certainly be taken,”
Pramono stated. Previously, Coordinating Minister for the Economy
Airlangga Hartarto revealed the reason for choosing Friday as the
work-from-home day for ASN. Friday was selected because work activities
tend to be relatively lighter compared to other working days. According
to him, the busyness level on that day is not as high as on regular
days, and in many agencies, it only runs about half of the daily
workload. In addition, the choice of Friday for WFH also follows the
practice of several ministries that have previously implemented a
four-day workweek pattern with digital system support, especially
post-COVID-19 pandemic. Nevertheless, Airlangga assured that the public
services sector and strategic sectors will continue to operate normally
as usual.
",
