Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated that the number of garbage\ntrucks transporting waste to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Disposal\nSite (TPST) in Bekasi City, West Java, has begun to decrease. He said\nthis has occurred following the increasingly massive implementation of\nthe waste sorting movement within Jakarta\u2019s communities. \u201cPreviously,\nevery day the number of trucks entering Bantargebang was around 1,200.\nNow it has decreased, and at one point recently it was around 900,\u201d\nPramono explained in South Jakarta on Tuesday (21\/7), as quoted by\nAntara.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will\ntherefore continue the waste sorting movement. It is hoped that all\nJakarta residents will also sort their waste properly, so that the\ncapital\u2019s waste problem can be resolved. \u201cSo, there has been a quite\nsignificant decrease. We will continue with the waste sorting programme.\nAs Governor of Jakarta, I truly hope that this waste sorting programme\nis carried out as well as possible,\u201d Pramono explained.<\/p>\n
In addition to continuing the waste sorting movement, the Jakarta\nGovernment will also revitalise the Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Waste\nProcessing Sites (TPS3R). He hopes that processing waste at TPS3R\nfacilities can reduce the residue sent to the Bantargebang TPST. The\nJakarta Government will also invest in several pieces of equipment and\ncooperate with the private sector to revive the TPS3R sites in the\ncapital. \u201cWe are investing in several pieces of equipment and also\ncooperating with the private sector, so that before waste reaches\nBantargebang, it is processed at the TPS3R. Hopefully, with this, the\nresidue that must still be sent to Bantargebang will be greatly\nreduced,\u201d Pramono clarified.<\/p>\n
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is currently preparing to\nreactivate the existing TPS3R sites. Pramono stated that a meeting was\nheld regarding Bantargebang and preparations are underway. He also plans\nto directly inspect four to five TPS3R locations.<\/p>\n
Previously, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government began phasing out\nthe open dumping practice at the Bantargebang TPST in Bekasi City, West\nJava. The initial stage was carried out by closing two active waste\ndisposal zones as part of the implementation of a controlled landfill\nsystem. Head of the DKI Jakarta Environmental Agency, Dudi Gardesi, said\nthe controlled landfill system began operating on Friday (17\/7).
