Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has affirmed that Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) will become a symbol of Jakarta's future, positioned strategically near Ancol entertainment precinct and Tanjung Priok Port. To address congestion during major events, the provincial government is developing an overhead pedestrian bridge connecting JIS to Ancol and constructing a dedicated commuter rail station beneath the stadium.

Jakarta — Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung Wibowo is convinced
that Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) will become a symbol of
Jakarta’s future, given the internationally-standard stadium’s strategic
location near the Ancol family entertainment precinct and economic
activity at Tanjung Priok Port.

“I am convinced that Jakarta’s future lies in this place,” he stated
whilst opening the JIS Ramadhan Festival 2026 in Jakarta on Sunday.

He noted the location is highly vital. Consequently, the DKI Jakarta
Provincial Government, through PT Jakpro as a Regional-Owned Enterprise
(BUMD), is connecting the stadium to the Ancol precinct through the
development of an Overhead Pedestrian Bridge (JPO) at Ancol.

According to him, the principal issue in the JIS area when hosting
Persija Jakarta football matches, Indonesian national team matches,
international competitions, and international concerts is traffic
congestion.

For this reason, he continued, the first priority is to connect the
JIS area with Ancol via the overhead pedestrian bridge.

With the pedestrian bridge in place, spectators can park their
vehicles in the Ancol area, which has capacity to accommodate tens of
thousands of vehicles, both cars and motorcycles.

Additionally, to serve spectators using public transport from across
Jakarta to the JIS area, adequate transport modes are required.

A dedicated commuter rail station will subsequently be constructed
beneath the stadium, connected to other stations in the city centre.

“This will be a solution to the congestion that often occurs when
there are events at this stadium,” he said.

He noted that JIS is an international-standard stadium built not only
to host football matches but also concerts as entertainment for Jakarta
residents.

“JIS is a source of pride and an international-standard stadium that
can be widely utilised by Jakarta residents,” he said.

Previously, PT Jakarta Propertindo (Perseroda), or Jakpro, announced
that the pedestrian bridge development connecting JIS to the Ancol
tourism precinct incorporates Betawi local wisdom philosophy, inspired
by traditional Betawi headwear.

“The JIS–Ancol pedestrian bridge is inspired by traditional Betawi
headwear, which symbolises unity through the Gigi Balang ornament
representing honesty and courage, as well as tiger stripe patterns
representing strength,” said President Director of PT Jakarta
Propertindo (Perseroda), Iwan Takwin in Jakarta on Friday.

He noted that this approach ensures visual harmony of the precinct
whilst affirming Jakarta’s identity as a modern global city that remains
rooted in local values. According to him, with an integrated design
concept, the pedestrian bridge is not merely a crossing route but an
element of the precinct experience.

“The JIS–Ancol pedestrian bridge design adopts the stadium’s primary
visual elements, creating a unified spatial flow from the JIS area to
the Ancol waterfront,” he said.

Furthermore, at night the pedestrian bridge will be fitted with an
integrated lighting system aligned with the stadium’s lamp scheme,
presenting an iconic visual landscape in northern Jakarta.
",
