Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo inaugurated the Heritage Flag\nPark (Taman Bendera Pusaka) in South Jakarta on Saturday, 14 March. The\ninauguration was attended by Indonesia\u2019s fifth President Megawati\nSoekarnoputri, Deputy Governor of Jakarta Rano Karno, and numerous\nofficials from the Jakarta Provincial Government and members of the\nJakarta Regional Parliament.<\/p>\n
\u201cI will inaugurate this park by saying Bismillahirrahmanirrahim. I\nhereby inaugurate the Heritage Flag Park and the Fatmawati Statue,\u201d said\nPramono in his remarks.<\/p>\n
In his address, Pramono stated that the park\u2019s development represents\nthe Jakarta Provincial Government\u2019s commitment to providing modern,\ninclusive, and family-friendly public spaces. \u201cThe presence of the\nHeritage Flag Park is part of the Jakarta government\u2019s commitment to\nexpanding modern, inclusive, and family-friendly green open spaces,\u201d\nPramono said.<\/p>\n
He explained that the park area integrates three previously separate\nparks: Langsat Park, Ayodya Park, and Leuser Park. This integration was\nundertaken to create more recreational space for residents.<\/p>\n
Pramono revealed that the 5.6-hectare area is equipped with various\nfacilities, including a 1.2-kilometre jogging track, tennis courts,\nmultipurpose fields, and padel courts, some of which can be used free of\ncharge by the public. \u201cThe main objective is to open recreational space\nand tourism destinations whilst providing Jakarta residents with the\nopportunity to use this facility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In addition to sports facilities, the area is equipped with a\nbusiness zone managed by micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises\n(MSMEs). Pramono noted that six business spots have been prepared for\nMSMEs within the park area.<\/p>\n
The Heritage Flag Park is also equipped with a statue of Fatmawati\nSoekarno in recognition of her service in sewing the Heritage Red and\nWhite Flag that was hoisted during Indonesia\u2019s proclamation of\nindependence. Pramono said the statue depicts Fatmawati whilst pregnant,\nreferencing the historical account of when she sewed the heritage flag\non the eve of Indonesia\u2019s independence proclamation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Red and White Flag is the nation\u2019s identity, the highest\nnational symbol, and the emblem of the sovereignty of the Unitary\nRepublic of Indonesia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He hopes the park will become one of Jakarta\u2019s symbols of pride and a\npublic space rich with the nation\u2019s historical values. Pramono added\nthat the park will open to the public starting Sunday, 15 March, and\nwill be accessible to residents 24 hours daily.<\/p>\n
