Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has said the\nhigh level of journalist participation in the Mohammad Hoesni Thamrin\nJournalism Award demonstrates the press community\u2019s strong attention to\nrecording Jakarta\u2019s dynamics while overseeing the course of the city\u2019s\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
A total of 754 journalistic works took part in the 52nd Mohammad\nHoesni Thamrin Journalism Award in 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year there are 754 journalistic works participating, showing\nthe great attention of the press community in recording Jakarta\u2019s\ndynamics from various perspectives,\u201d said Pramono in his remarks at the\naward ceremony for the winners at the Balai Agung, Jakarta City Hall, on\nMonday.<\/p>\n
According to him, the press plays an important role as a critical\npartner of the government. Accurate, fact-based reporting that is\nneither exaggerated nor understated is needed so that the public\nreceives a clear picture of Jakarta\u2019s condition.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn my view, report it as it is. There\u2019s no need to exaggerate or\ndownplay things; in fact, I tend to prefer things being understated,\nbecause I don\u2019t want to overexpose something that isn\u2019t actually the\ncase,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He added that journalistic works based on facts, data, ethical codes,\nand public responsibility also help the government view various issues\nmore objectively, while serving as evaluation material for improving\npolicies and public services.<\/p>\n
Ahead of Jakarta\u2019s 500th anniversary commemoration, the Jakarta\nProvincial Government is targeting for the city to rank among the\nworld\u2019s top 20 global cities by 2045.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are many of Jakarta\u2019s strategic agendas that need to be\noverseen together, ranging from access to education and health, public\ntransport development and Transit-Oriented Development (TOD), urban\nspatial planning, to waste management transformation. The media\u2019s role\nis important so that the public knows the direction of policies, their\nprogress, and their tangible benefits,\u201d said Pramono.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Chairman of PWI Jaya, Kesit Budi Handoyo, said his\norganisation has begun preparing the 2027 Journalism Award with a\nspecial theme of Jakarta\u2019s 500 Years.<\/p>\n
According to Kesit, the high number of participants this year serves\nas motivation to deliver an even better event in 2027.<\/p>\n
PWI Jaya also plans to add an award category for journalistic works\npublished via social media.<\/p>\n
