Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has stressed the importance of\nfulfilling the basic right to food for every citizen.<\/p>\n
Pramono made the remarks during the final opinion on the Draft\nRegional Regulation on Food System Governance and the Draft Regional\nRegulation on the Environmental Protection and Management Plan at a\nplenary session of the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives on\nWednesday.<\/p>\n
According to him, food security will determine the quality of human\nresources and the quality of a nation. Therefore, Jakarta needs policies\nthat can integrate the pillars of food availability, food affordability\nand food utilisation.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe existence of the Draft Regional Regulation on Food System\nGovernance is expected to realise food governance that provides fair,\nequitable and sustainable benefits for every citizen, especially the\npoor and neglected,\u201d Pramono said.<\/p>\n
He said the regional regulation would serve as a legal foundation for\nthe executive in designing coordinated policies, programmes and\nbudgeting for food system governance.<\/p>\n
As a global city and the centre of the national economy, Jakarta\ncurrently faces various development challenges, ranging from climate\nchange, environmental pollution, limited natural resources, declining\nenvironmental quality, to the increasing demand for urban space.<\/p>\n
\u201cTherefore, Jakarta\u2019s development must be carried out with attention\nto the balance between economic growth, public welfare and environmental\nsustainability,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Pramono said the Environmental Protection and Management Plan is a\n30-year long-term strategic planning document that serves as the basis\nfor determining Jakarta\u2019s development direction.<\/p>\n
The enactment of the Regional Regulation on the Environmental\nProtection and Management Plan is a concrete manifestation of the\nexecutive\u2019s commitment to strengthening environmental governance that is\nadaptive to the dynamics of urban development.<\/p>\n
