Pramindo wins certificate<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): PT Pramindo Ikat Nusantara, a joint venture
\nbetween France Telecom, the Astra Group and two other local
\npartners, yesterday received its inter-connection test
\ncertificate in Medan, North Sumatra.<\/p>\n
The certificate, delivered by Director General of Post and
\nTelecommunications Djakaria Purawidjaja to Pramindo's president
\nMrs. Nuryana Prasetyo, was the first one awarded to any of the
\nfive private consortia holding 15-year joint operation contracts
\nwith the state-owned domestic telecommunications operator PT
\nTelkom.<\/p>\n
Under the contract signed last year, Pramindo, which is 59
\npercent owned by Astratel Nusantara, a subsidiary of the
\npublicly-listed Astra International, will manage the 700,000
\nfixed telephone lines already installed by Telkom and will
\ninstall around 517,000 new lines within the next three years.<\/p>\n
Telkom will receive a minimum revenue of Rp 514 billion
\n(approximately US$220 million) this year from Pramindo as
\ncompensation for the operation of its existing telephone networks
\nin Sumatra, plus 30 percent of the profit to be made from the
\noperation of the telecommunications networks.<\/p>\n
Pramindo, using DRA 1900 equipment supplied by Ericsson AB of
\nSweden, demonstrated yesterday its telephone facilities in
\nBinjai, a small town near Medan. (icn)<\/p>",
